Paul Henry Gold Cup goes the way of St Marys
St Marys rounded off a successful return to league football on Saturday 27th May at The Bowl, with victory over Braddan in the Paul Henry Gold Cup.
Despite pressure from St Marys from the kick off, it was Braddan who took the lead through Joe Burrows, which invigorated the Swans. However, defender Tar Phumsai met a square ball from Joe Berquist to level up for St Marys going into half time.
In the 53rd minute Nick Hatton was shown a red card by referee Peter Cain leaving his side Braddan to fight the tide. Burrows beat the offside trap and slotted home to make it 2-1 Braddan.
St Marys were then awarded a penalty, which was converted by Jamie Skillen, and then they took a 3-2 lead through Owen Canipa. Braddan struggled to get hold of the game and Nathan Halsall went on to score a long range shot, which the Braddan 'keeper, Harry Callin, couldn't quite stop from crossing the line.
Phumsai was named Player of the Match for his solid defensive display, topped off by a first half goal.
