Peel lift Charity Shield
Peel claimed the first silverware of the new season on Saturday, lifting the Eric Fletcher Charity Shield after a 3-1 victory over Corinthians.
The reigning Canada Life Premier League champs went ahead for the first time on 42 minutes thanks to a Jake Robertshaw toe poke. After the half-time break, Dan Simpson drew his side level after blasting a loose ball into the roof of the net, following a free kick that went through the Peel wall.
But it was Paul Whitehead who made the difference after entering the pitch as a sub. His first goal came at the end of normal time, and his second within the seven minutes of extra time added by referee, Andy Lodge.
Corinthians forward Chester Bell was named Player of the Match.
